Topographies of Fragility
Ingrid Weyland travelled from southern Argentina to Greenlands ice sheets in search of untouched, surreal natural landscapes. The series Topographies of Fragility is not meant as a documentation but as a metaphor of the vulnerability of our natural world and to raise awareness so that we humans can begin to think of a world in harmony with nature. The artist manually alters the landscapes selected from her archive of images gathered during her travels. The resulting crumpled photographs are then laid over the same untouched vistas and rephotographed, inviting viewers to reflect on the idea of the natural world as something disposable, to be discarded. Through this intervention on printed photographic paper, the work meditates on the permanent and irreversible traces of human actions, offering a poetic allusion to our relationship with the planet.
