It Would Never Be Quite The Same Again

It Would Never Be Quite The Same Again intertwines a series of disputed places and acts of dissent and creates a network of interconnected geographies and histories, of personal and collective memories on the distinctive political contexts of Chile, Spain and Grat Britain. The detonations that opened the Atacama nitrate fields continue to ring out in other places, and in other times. A statue of Margaret Thatcher vandalized in London. An arms factory destroyed in Brighton as Israel attacked Gaza. Pinochet under house arrest a few hundred yards from a Roman ruin rebuilt like madness in an English park. A censored interview with Allende, shown in Venice once he was already dead. A car dumped on a Madrid rooftop in 1973, and a painting by Tàpies bought in Paris that summer that he seems to have known. It Would Never Be Quite The Same Again, which comes from the words spoken by a British judge who ruled on the vandalization of a statue of Margaret Thatcher, is an appendix of Nitrate, presented at MACBA in 2014.
